The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is a landmark legislation that guarantees employment on local public works to anyone who asks for it. Essential entitlements under this Act include: employment on demand within 15 days; minimum wages; payment within 15 days; and basic worksite facilities. If employment is not provided within 15 days, an unemployment allowance has to be paid.
Since the enactment of the NREGA, a wide range of organisations across India have been struggling to ensure that people are able to claim their entitlements under the Act. This website is an attempt to provide a range of tools and information for further action.
